One 14-year-old boy was discovered deceased only a few days following being falsely accused of taking the ashes of a dead infant during a burglary, an inquest has heard.

Tragic Discovery

Kai Lloyd's parents discovered his remains in his bedroom at his Flintshire home on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Accusations Begin

The investigation heard how his mother got a message on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a woman asking if her son was her child. The communication stated: "Tell him thanks for breaking into my flat."

In a statement presented to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the news, asserting her baby's remains had been taken in a burglary - a allegation which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An official inquiry from authorities later concluded the supposed break-in complainant had "provided false information" and "it now appears that said property was not taken in the first place".

Media reports about the alleged stolen remains generated social media comments, and although Kai was not named in the posts, his mother said individuals "understood it was him".

The "social media content were extremely upsetting", she stated.

Mental Health Effect

She added that her son had been diagnosed with mild ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' views genuinely were important to him.

"This must have hurt him deeply," she commented, "especially when this was untrue".

Kai was detained at his residence, but nothing was discovered. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later released under investigation.

Police said they would be in touch, the hearing heard, but had not reached out to the family by the time of his death.

Withdrawal and Worry

His parent said her son "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had heard anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could seem like days".

When she spoke to him about the alleged burglary, she said her son told her he had entered the residence because the resident who lived there had said he could utilize the toilet whenever he wanted, but denied removing anything.

Online Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being harassed digitally after the accusations.

The inquest heard that one 19-year-old urged the teenager to end his life.

She had no worries on the night before he died, describing how she had heard him "laughing and joking".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, loving" young man, and said her "relatives is completely shattered".

He had been "clearly concealing his concerns", she said, adding that he could not bear to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

School Response

The hearing received testimony from educational personnel at the local secondary school.

On November 8th, she "overheard some boys discussing that the student had been arrested and that was the initial I learned".

"He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she added.

After the conversation, the staff member said she rang Kai's family landline and left a voicemail saying she had spoken to Kai about the accusations.

The proceedings heard his parents said they never receive that message.

Official Finding

Senior coroner informed the inquest he would await documents regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with suspects with the condition, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of future deaths report.

Delivering a narrative conclusion, he stated: "Around 8 November 2021, unsubstantiated allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young individual.

"Likely untruths were afterwards embellished and amplified through the platform of online networks.

"On 11 November, he was interviewed by the authorities and after his interview he was released whilst investigations continued."

The coroner concluded: "There is no proof that the acts or omissions of any agency caused or contributed to his passing and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted action it is not possible to discern his purpose."
